Too many people are afraid to speak up if they see that their partner is harming their body through an unhealthy diet, which is a major shame since they could be the biggest inspiration for their significant other to shape up. Naturally, however, any time you want to encourage your partner to make some changes, there are right and wrong ways to do it. The right ways make them feel as if they aren’t being judged and make them feel loved and supported. The wrong ways can make them feel insecure, resentful of you, and discouraged. Just think about the times you’ve wanted to lose a little weight; you responded positively to the comments of some friends, and quite negatively to the comments of others. Here are the right and wrong ways to get your partner to eat healthier.

On Donald And Melania Trump And Why Chivalry Shouldn’t End After You Say “I Do”

https://www.instagram.com/p/BPo896aDL99/?tagged=melaniatrump&hl=en He’s only a few days in office and President Donald Trump has already been the topic of much debate. But then again, when has Trump not been a subject of discussion? The man who holds the most powerful position in the world has people up in arms over his immature tweets, lies about his inauguration and the multiple executive orders that have been signed thus far, among many other issues. With so many things about him eliciting a negative response, it would make sense that some people probably wouldn't be focused on his marriage. It's peanuts right? However, Trump’s treatment of wife Melania does have some people talking. https://www.instagram.com/p/BPpTU7MA2VM/?tagged=melaniatrump&hl=en In video from inauguration day, when former President Obama and Michelle meet up with the Trumps at the White House, Trump is seen getting out of the car and heading up the steps to greet them. He doesn't wait for Melania, who is seen getting out of the car and walking up the steps by herself, only to have the former president help her. I’ve seen this video float around social media since that day, with viewers comparing the way Obama and President Trump treat their wives and commenters accusing the new president of not respecting Melania. But when you have a clear lack of respect for women in general, should people really be surprised? Still, even body language expert Patti Wood had to speak out about his not-so-subtle actions, calling the president “selfish” when it comes to the way he treats the new First Lady. "He could have even held her arm to help her up those stairs," Wood said in an interview with The Daily Mail. "Yes, he is about to be president, but there are etiquette rules, and these behaviors showed no care or respect or warmth for her as he came in and that did not change during the greeting exchange." The uproar surrounding this issue made me question chivalry in marriages. Is it something that people exercise during the dating phase but choose to become lax about after saying “I do”? Is it something that sticks with a man forever if taught at an early age? Is it even necessary and to what degree? I firmly believe that chivalry is the root of romance and excitement in a marriage. It's a way to remain connected to your spouse and show fundamental levels of care and affection. Even though we aren’t living in medieval times, which might warrant you waiting for your husband to show up on a horse ready for battle, I still think that chivalry shows a woman that her husband respects and honors her. Even the smallest gesture lets her know that she is being taken care of. That is something simple that has nothing to do with money, but everything to do with consideration. Opening the door for a woman is probably the most popular act of chivalry, but there are a few other actions deemed honorable as well. A man can hold his wife’s hand often; walk on the side closest to the street, showing her that he will protect her; or even getting wet while bringing or holding an umbrella, this according to AllProDad.com. I do agree that you can tell a lot about a man by the way he treats his wife. Now, I don’t think a man has to do all of the aforementioned actions to truly respect his wife, but with true admiration, the respect will come in any way, shape or form. Not to mention, it will go both ways. If you already make time for date nights, cuddles on the couch and deep conversations, that's great. But be sure to add a few chivalrous actions to your relationship, or continue to do so, and watch the ways in which it will continue to flourish.

Well, diamonds and all sorts of gems. Morrow is a gemologist, meaning she identifies and evaluates gems. In other words, she knows her rocks. Jewelry is not a bad business to be in. In fact, the jewelry market is a $70 billion dollar industry, according to the Huffington Post. Morrow is actually a Graduate Gemologist specializing in the grading and procurement of fine diamonds and gemstones. She currently works with a New York City-based diamond house to manage loose diamond, custom design, and fine jewelry sales. Atlanta native Morrow earned her B.F.A. in Design at Howard University before studying gemology at the Gemological Institute of America in New York. Morrow is also a member of the Women’s Jewelry Association and GIA Alumni Association, as well as a painter and fine artist who will showcase her work in 2017. Recently, Morrow schooled MadameNoire on how to pick a great gem--and what makes good engagement ring. MadameNoire (MN): What prompted you to start in the jewelry business? Zenobia Morrow (ZW): When I was young, my mother and I would go antique shopping on the weekends, my first stop was always the jewelry displays. I was obsessed with the jewelry that harkened back to old Hollywood and seemed so glamorous even though it was just paste and rhinestones! I grew and learned more about fine jewelry and saw some people from my community making what I thought were poor choices in respect to their jewelry purchases. I wanted to be the one to help them make better decisions. After college, I found out about the Graduate Gemologist program at Gemological Institute of America (GIA) and enrolled. I love how the industry blends artistry, business, and science together and allows people to express themselves and capture special memories in stone. MN: What have been some of the challenges you faced in the industry? ZM: Being a woman in a male-dominated field has had its challenges. Some people just saw me as a silly girl who was better off behind the jewelry counter than in the room with serious buyers, but I took the opportunity to learn from some of the toughest and shrewdest in the industry. MN: What has been your biggest business lesson? ZM: My biggest business lesson is that you have to find your niche. You have to be able to access your talents and effectiveness in the field and be realistic about where you are strongest. For me, that area is working directly with clients on custom projects whether it is an engagement ring or building out a jewelry collection, being able to work one-on-one and build that relationship is where I am most effective and have the most fun! MN: Let's talk gems. What are some of the trends for engagement rings this year? ZM: By definition an engagement ring should not be “trendy” but you do see some styles gain popularity. Right now I’m seeing more movement away from traditional halo styles in favor of more unique halos made with baguettes, enamel, or colored diamonds. Lots of ladies will be accessorizing their solitaires with interchangeable stacked bands. It’s an inexpensive way to switch up your look whenever you like. You will also see a rise in alternative center stones like sapphires, black diamonds, rose cuts, etc. in the traditional shapes: cushions, ovals, and emerald cuts remain strong. MN: How much should a man should spend on an engagement ring? ZW: A man should spend what his budget allows. There is no magic formula. He really needs to sit down and think about what he can spend comfortably, knowing that this is something she will be wearing for many years through different phases of life. The engagement ring is part of their personal legacy, an item that can one day be passed down to children and grandchildren, he should do what he can to make it special and important. If you’re working with a limited budget it's crucial to select a jeweler that can get creative. Re-worked vintage pieces, alternative center stones, and optimal measurements on traditional diamonds can help a guy to get more look for the budget. MN: What qualities should one look for in an engagement ring? ZM: With traditional diamonds the first must-have is a lab report from the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) certifying the color, clarity, and other details of the diamond. Beyond that, it’s important to get the best quality combinations within the budget. For example, in emerald cuts you need a higher clarity because the large open facets show every imperfection, but those large facets also leak color so you can go to a lower color. Cushion cuts, in contrast, have concentrated facets that enhance the color of the diamond but also hide internal flaws, so you can go with a lower clarity but need a higher color. Every shape has little tips and tricks; I always work with my clients identify the best combination of elements for the shape that they want.

#OscarsAintSoWhite: Mahershala, Viola, Denzel, Octavia And All Your Faves Received Academy Award Noms

It's going to be a colorful Academy Awards based on all the of the nominations that were doled out to Black actors and actresses this morning. From Moonlight to Fences and even Hidden Figures, the great work of actors of color was deservedly recognized by the Academy this time around. So much for #OscarsSoWhite. In the acting categories, Denzel Washington was nominated for best actor for Fences, Ruth Negga garnered a best actress nomination for Loving, and Mahershala Ali received a best supporting actor nomination for Moonlight. The best supporting actress category was quite Black, including Octavia Spencer for Hidden Figures, Noamie Harris for Moonlight and Viola Davis for Fences. Ali told Today early this morning that he will probably be able to fully grasp his Oscar nomination "maybe in a couple of days" because he's so flummoxed by the honor. "We did this movie with nothing, with little to no money, we just showed up, and we were there for the right reasons." As for Harris, she shared this gif:

Mood 😂 pic.twitter.com/zeSNQxHre4
— Naomie Harris (@NaomieHarris) January 24, 2017
Moonlight's Barry Jenkins nabbed a nomination not only for best director, but also for best adapted screenplay alongside playwright Tarell Alvin McCraney. The film as a whole received eight nominations, including nods for cinematography, original score, editing (Joi McMillon, alongside Nat Sanders, is the first Black woman to be nominated in the editing category) and best picture. While Washington was likely hoping for recognition for his directing work instead of just his acting, Fences was acknowledged. It was nominated for best picture as well as best adapted screenplay. As for Hidden Figures, aside from Spencer's nomination, it similarly garnered mentions in the best picture category as well as for best adapted screenplay. And on the documentary feature front, Ava DuVernay's 13 and Herbert and Raoul Peck's I Am Not Your Negro were also nominated. Around this time last year, #OscarsSoWhite was trending due to the fact that none of the nominees in acting categories were people of color. The criticism was deserved, as it was the second year in a row it happened. Before 2015, all-White acting categories hadn't occurred since 1998. But with all of the aforesaid nominees, along with recognition for actor Dev Patel for best supporting actor in Lion, it looks like the Academy is ready to shake things up again. The real question now is, will any of your favorites win? Tune in on February 26 at 7 p.m. (EST) when the Oscars, hosted by Jimmy Kimmel, air on ABC.

When Letting Go Is Not An Option: We Found Barack And Michelle In The British Virgin Islands

Out of all of the lackluster moments from last Friday's inauguration ceremonies, the absolute worst moment might have been (for me at least) watching former President Barack Obama and Michelle hop on Air Force One to Palm Springs. With a wave goodbye, it was the official "deuces!" The end of an era. To say they're now "chilling out, maxing, relaxing all cool" would be an understatement. Despite the convoy that has to follow them for security purposes, the pair are keeping a low profile. Mr. Obama was spotted enjoying trips to the gym as well as a round of golf. According to Splash News, the couple stayed at the desert hilltop home of Spanish ambassador James Costos for the weekend. It's quite swanky, landing a feature in Architectural Digest in 2015. After just a few days of relaxation on the West Coast, Mr. and Mrs. Obama were seen heading out of Palm Springs on a private jet owned by business magnate Richard Branson. They were snapped with the locals in the British Virgin Islands on Monday: https://www.instagram.com/p/BPpirH-AXLz/?taken-by=theshaderoom&hl=en They were reportedly on their way to Necker Island, which is owned by Branson. There are sprawling beaches and all sorts of wildlife on the luxury isle. According to Virgin Limited Edition, you can feed and hang with lemurs, flamingos and giant tortoises during a stay on the 74-acre luxury island. Considering that you have to take a boat to get there, privacy should be guaranteed for the couple. While we miss them immensely already (obviously, or we wouldn't be tracking their every move right now), it's nice to know they're getting some much-deserved time for themselves -- and with flamingos! #bawse

Boy, Bye: Judge Rejects Lamar Sally’s Request For More Child Support

$

At this point, everyone, including the legal system, is starting to see the joke behind Lamar Sally and his perpetual scheme to drain his ex-wife Sherri Shepherd of every dime she has. Though Shepherd was already shelling out $4,100 in monthly child support, just last month, Sally was requesting more. He argued that Shepherd was earning more money than when the judgment was first made and in addition to wanting more of it, he was also requesting that Shepherd pay an additional $75,000 in legal fees. But a California judge shut all of that down, throwing out Sally’s request. The judge determined that New Jersey and not California has jurisdiction over the child support case Sally attempted to take to California. We wouldn’t be surprised if he tried his luck over there. We doubt it will work. Congratulations to Sherri on this win. Veronica Wells is the culture editor at MadameNoire.com. The survey by cheapcarinsurance.net, an online auto insurance site, showed that racial profiling "remains a problem in America and that the public's relationship with police forces is in desperate need of improvement," reported The Car Connection. What the survey actually found was that 19.9 percent of white respondents have been able to talk their way out of traffic tickets, while 34.13 percent of African Americans said that they've never been able to get out of a ticket. Men had the higher percentage of getting out of tickets, but they too were pulled over the most. "When broken down by race, African-American drivers had been pulled over more than any other group (3.87 times), while Asian Americans had been stopped the least (2.52 times)," reported The Car Connection. The survey also asked the respondents how they felt about being pulled over. And the racial groups had different responses. "White drivers were the most likely to feel guilty (26.93 percent), while Hispanic drivers were least likely to feel that way (12.03 percent). Meanwhile, African American drivers were most likely to say that they never felt guilty at traffic stops (6.13 percent), while Hispanic drivers were the least likely to say so (2.87 percent)," reported The Car Connection. Have you ever been able to talk your way out of a traffic ticket?

While T.I. might want to remain tight-lipped about what's going on between him and Tiny, she's decided to be candid about the state of their relationship. "He need to come on back to me. I’m where I’m supposed to be at." https://www.instagram.com/p/BPoaqKagE_X/ As you were previously informed, Tiny filed for divorce from the rapper in December. Rumors about issues in their relationship have been swirling for years, including claims of infidelity on his part. Things got quite complicated when Tiny's friendship with Floyd Mayweather was put in the spotlight. Despite all of that, the pair have spent time together with their children since she filed, namely with toddler Heiress, and you wouldn't get the vibe that their marriage is in trouble. Sources close to the pair told TMZ that they've had their "romantic" moments and those who know them believe they might reconcile. However, the filing still stands, and based on her Instagram Live chat, she's waiting for him to show and prove. As for what T.I. has to say about the future of his relationship, well, as he said: "It ain't your damn business." Touché. You might use this knowledge to help you make healthy choices at restaurants. You know what the calorie and fat content are of the version of the dish you make, so you assume the restaurant variety must be comparable. Unfortunately, that is not always the case. A restaurant’s job isn’t to help you stay svelte; their job is to serve you something so scrumptious that you dream about it for days and tell all of your friends about it. And, typically, that goal isn’t achieved by making low-calorie dishes. So beware because these meals are typically far fattier at a restaurant than they are when you make them at home. The world may have never gotten to know Frederick Jay Bowdy as an entertainer but, sadly, now his name has come to the forefront of media headlines after the aspiring actor took his own life on Facebook Live. https://www.instagram.com/p/BPOkSJcAU1J/?taken-by=iamjaybowdy According to the LA Times, Bowdy "told followers watching via livestream that he was going to commit suicide, prompting an out-of-state family member to call the Los Angeles Police Department about 5:30 a.m., according to Sgt. Tiffany Ljubetic. Police tried to reach Bowdy, who was in a car near Cumpston Street and Fulcher Avenue, but he killed himself before officers made contact with him, Ljubetic said." Shock and sadness immediately followed the incident, along with questions of whether the act was a hoax because of Bowdy's profession, with others asking why he'd want to take his own life. Further investigation by the LA Times revealed the 33 year old who had recently moved to Southern California had been arrested in Santa Clarita on suspicion of sexual assault last Thursday and was released Friday after posting $100,000 bail, although "he had not been charged with a crime." https://www.instagram.com/p/BG0L1dKA7VT/ Ruthylyn, a friend of the Texas native who had worked as a teacher and coach in Fort Worth and owned a semi-professional basketball team there, wrote an open letter to Bowdy on Nakeddeparture.com, expressing her sadness and guilt over his death.
"I’m not one to express much, but I feel the need to because my heart is so heavy. My open letter to you. "Though I haven’t known you long, we built a relationship that was strong. I’m sitting here looking through our last text messages and trying to figure out where I went wrong, what I missed, what I could have done differently to have been there for you in your time of need. I feel like I have failed you as a friend and for that I am truly sorry. In the time we spent together, there were some true heart to hearts. I hate that you felt you had to end your life. I pray for you… your wife…your children…your family and friends. I pray you are no longer in pain and are at peace. "I will try to remember the good times we spent together and I will always remember our laughs and your smile. I pray that you are resting peacefully. I’m sorry I wasn’t there. The last text you sent to me was, “Be great friend” and I promise you that I will… for you and for me."
According to Hello Beautiful, at the end of Bowdy's Facebook Live video, which has since been removed, he explained that he "had his first child when he was 18 years old and got married when he was 25 years old. He and his wife welcomed four children together and he also had two kids from a previous relationship."
